Barbara Astman, Dancing with Che: Enter Through the Gift Shop opens at the McMaster Museum of Art, Hamilton, Ontario. February 16 – May 5, 2012. Please join us at the McMaster Museum of Art for the artist’s talk and walk around the installation on Thursday, February 16, 6-7:30 pm.
Barbara Astman explores the vulgarization and trivialization of iconic revolutionary Che Guevara in a gift- shop intervention and installation that implicates our consumer attitudes through "museum culture" merchandising. We enter through a gift shop that is the exhibition, yet refuses/denies our impulse to buy; nothing is for sale.
