Corkin Gallery presents an exhibiton by Frank Mädler

FRANK MÄDLER
January 28-March 13, 2012

Corkin Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition, celebrating new works by Leipzig-based artist, Frank Mädler. The exhibition will feature works from the series, Basic Motion, Gold, Shine and Wiesen. In these bodies of works, Mädler calls attention to the relationship between distance, time, technology and movement through an ambiguous approach of visual representation. Mädler takes the spectators on a visual journey and is able to create an atmosphere that arouses emotion within the spectators.

Born in Torgelow, Germany in 1963, Frank Mädler has evolved as one of the premier photographic artists in Europe and North America. Working within the realm of abstract realism, Mädler juxtaposes color, space, and sense of time in his compositions to blur the lines of reality and illusion. His experimentation with traditional technique conjures an ethereal quality to his work that is both alluring and hauntingly beautiful. Professor and critic, Katharina Menzel once wrote, "...his pictures arouse emotions without veering into pathos... He strives to concentrate on something 'essential' in his pictures ... and produces an atmosphere that makes the world outside the camera's frame appear irrelevant to the spectator."
An international student of the arts, Mädler studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany under the direction of renowned photographer, Astrid Klein. In 2004, he won a scholarship to the German Academy in Rome at the Villa Massimo, one of the most esteemed German prizes for a visual artist. He was also awarded the opportunity to complete coursework at the Facultad de Bellas Artes, in both Madrid and Cuenca, Spain. In 2007, Mädler graduated with his Masters in Fine Art from the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany where he continues to live and work today.
Mädler's work has been written about by influential German curators and writers, including Christoph Tannert (Director, Künslterhaus Bethanien, Berlin), Tanja Dückers, and Katharina Menzel. His work is held in the collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Altana Kunstsammlung im Sinclair-Haus (Hamburg, Germany), the Kupferstichkabinett (Dresden, Germany), the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie (Regensburg, Germany), La Maison Rouge (Foundation of Antoine de Galbert), the Mulder Foundation (Lima, Peru), the Sammlung Deutsche Telekom (Germany) and the Staatliche Kunstammlungen (Dresden, Germany).
